BNB Chain announced that its X account has been restored following a hack earlier today. Hackers had shared fake airdrop posts on BNB Chain’s account that contained several phishing links. Platform executives have reported an estimated loss of $8,000 and confirmed they are ready to compensate fully.Â
Bad actors shared a total of 10 phishing links, and victims who clicked and interacted with the links had their wallets drained of around $8,000. Among those affected, the hardest-hit individual lost nearly $6500. The attacker also created a phishing smart contract through which they gained control to drain assets from compromised wallets
Interestingly, the attacker injected $17,800 worth of crypto to buy memecoins worth $22,000, and made a profit of $4,200. However, the crypto community mocked the hacker. As Binance Co-founder CZ remarked, the community turned the hacker’s crypto dump into a missed opportunity. The holders flipped the script — they pushed the memecoin’s price higher after the hacker sold his coins, and only the hacker lost potential profits.
