Iran’s Nobitex crypto exchange starts recovery process following $90 million hack

Iranian digital asset exchange, Nobitex, has announced that it has started recovery procedures following the recent $90 million exploit. The exchange team stated that the recovery efforts are gradually carried out, beginning with “verified users and spot wallets.”

The executives also underscored that it will display wallet balances once it has verified the accuracy and security of all information. Last week, Nobitex had already signaled that it would start recuperating from the exploit.

The exchange was hacked on June 18, reportedly by Gonjeshke Darande, who has claimed responsibility and posted an X post announcing that in 24 hours, his team will release Nobitex’s source code and internal information from their internal network. “Any assets that remain there after that point will be at risk!” The hack happened in the context of the Iran-Israel war that ended last week with a ceasefire.

Moreover, last week, the Central Bank of Iran imposed a temporary ban on all domestic crypto trading, restricting operating hours between 10 am and 8 pm. The central bank took this step to monitor any further attacks in the wake of the war.
