Leap Wallet, part of the Cosmos ecosystem, announced their closure from 28 of May in an official announcement.
Leap wallet to permanently shut down
The non-custodial wallet announced that they will permanently shut down all their products, ending a four-year long popular wallet in the Cosmo’s ecosystem. The closure will impact all their browser extensions, mobile apps, Compass Wallet, Swapfast and Leap’s Cosmos Hub Validator.Â
Users were asked to migrate their wallets to ensure uninterrupted access to their assets.
Developers at Leap have provided users with tools and a step-by-step guide to help them migrate. Users have approximately eight weeks to utilize these migration tools to export their recovery phrases, while these tools would ensure that assets and private keys are securely transferred.
However, users are also warned about the authenticity of the platform they use, and the protocol asks them to verify the tools they use to avoid falling victim to any fraudulent platforms.
Who impacts and how?
Recently, other cases of similar transactions have occurred across multiple platforms that are either due to a shift in governance or funding structures. One among them was Tally, the renowned platform that served more than 500 DAOs, including Uniswap, Arbitrum, and ENS, which officially announced their operations were ceasing.
Analysts say that the major reason for the brutal hit in the ecosystem is due to liquidity depletion, cost pressures, and a shift in the narrative circling the industry.
Investors are advised to closely monitor the migration process for any disruptions or delays that could impact asset accessibility. Although the official timeline remains unchanged, the challenges arising within the industry, including technical hurdles and user adoption, are expected and are to be dealt with immediately by developers.
Users are asked to be careful with the choice of their replacement wallets, as it could influence both asset security as well as users’ ability to engage with future developments in the Cosmos ecosystem.
Tough times for the industry
Leap’s closure comes amid a particularly turbulent period for the sector. Within the same week, Dmail shut down, Yupp AI discontinued operations, Magic Eden’s wallet ceased functioning, and Solana-based Drift Protocol suffered a $285 million exploit.
