The rise in phishing and scamming incidents has caught the attention of cybersecurity firm Kaspersky. It has recently announced a new feature in its mobile app for Android called notification protection. The new feature acts as an anti-phishing tool for messengers (messaging apps) and SMS notifications.
“Every year, we see an increase in the number of phishing attacks and scams. Attackers actively use new channels, making the scam more targeted and difficult to recognize”, said Marina Titova, Vice President, Consumer Business at Kaspersky.
The new Notification Protection feature is designed to eliminate this potential risk, added the executive.
Kaspersky’s notification protection detects phishing links
Several mobile notifications may contain malicious links that users might not easily identify. This is where the notification protection feature works. Through the feature, Kaspersky identifies and removes scam and suspicious links in mobile notifications and protects users from phishing attempts. Nearly 166,000 users have currently activated the notification protection, proving its efficiency in every case.
Multilayer protection
Kaspersky now provides multilayer protection, ensuring that every link a user clicks is safe and secure.
Safe browsing – checks URLs and warns users about potential phishing sites in their browsers.
Safe messaging – identifies malicious links in messengers and gives a pop-up warning inside the messenger app.
Notification protection – analyzes incoming notifications across all apps, and identifies and removes scam and suspicious links even before the user opens the app.
Kaspersky executives emphasized that users do not have to second-guess the links when they activate the new feature. Users receive alerts via push notifications and in-app warnings when they activate the notification protection. This helps them to avoid clicking on dangerous links
Activating Kaspersky’s notification protection
Kaspersky’s latest version shows the new feature for Android. To activate the feature, open the Kaspersky for Android menu: go to All Features → Safe Messaging → enable Check Notifications. Finally, grant Kaspersky access to your notifications and enable accessibility.
“Additional anti-phishing protection is another milestone in safeguarding every aspect of our customers’ digital life,” commented Marina Titova.
