Trust Wallet’s Chrome browser extension is back after $6 million hack

After the dust settled from a recent exploit, Trust Wallet had previously announced its compensation process. Now, the crypto wallet team has informed that its browser extension is back on the Chrome Web Store. The latest version of the Trust Wallet browser extension is 2.1.0.

Trust Wallet browser extension attack was the final major hacking incident of 2025, which shook the crypto world, as the year 2025 showcased more breaches than 2024.

The team has advised wallet users to be extra cautious when clicking the browser extension link to enable it, as fake links may be circulating online.

The Trust Wallet team is still actively working to reimburse the funds lost in exploitations. “The team is carefully reviewing all submissions and is committed to reimbursing every verified affected user”, said the Trust Wallet team.

Trust Wallet browser extension hack caused $6 million loss

The exploitation happened when hackers secretly embedded malicious code into the Chrome browser extension. Users who enabled the extension lost significant amounts of crypto funds as bad actors gained access to user wallets and drained funds from them.

Multiple Trust Wallet users saw their funds draining from their wallets and reported the issue, which then drew the attention of on-chain investigator ZachXBT, who first flagged the incident on X.

2025 ends with a hack, 2026 starts with another hack

2025 ended with the Trust Wallet browser extension hack, and in fact, some of us might have thought there would be a slight relief from hacks as 2026 bloomed. However, on the contrary, this year began with another set of exploitations with approximately $107,000 in crypto funds drained from hundreds of wallets on Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) chains.

While recalling some days in 2025, crypto saw its worst period apart from market crashes. Multiple security incidents like Bybit, Upbit, and Balancer DeFi protocol hacks have made the crypto industry weary. More exploitation will likely happen this year, as hackers are eagerly waiting for their opportunities to steal funds.

Bottom Line

The Trust Wallet team has announced that its Chrome extension is now back after a $6 million hack reported on December 26, 2025. Hackers have embedded malicious code in the extension link, which helped drain funds from user wallets when they enabled the extension.
