As “Ethereum stands at the edge of major breakthroughs,” the team has decided to enhance the platform towards three strategic goals. The enhancement that focuses on scaling the L1, scaling the blobs, and improving UX comes just under a month after the Pectra upgrade.

‘In conversation with our community, our collective mind has produced three ambitious goals for us to achieve in short order: scale L1, scale blobs, and improve UX. Doing so successfully is the most valuable work we could be doing on behalf of our community, and it is our responsibility to deliver on it,’ stated the announcement.

The Ethereum Foundation (EF) stated that the zkEVMs have rapidly accelerated, enabling them to re-architect L1 to support scale, verifiability, security, and censorship-resistance simultaneously. Moreover, the EF stressed L2s are hardening, meeting users’ demand, and they are eager to double down on using Ethereum as their root of trust.

Scaling of Layer 1 will be conducted under the leadership of Tim Beiko & Ansgar Dietrichs, while scaling of Layer 2 will be entrusted to Alex Stokes & Francesco D’Amato. The UX improvement will be carried out by Barnabé Monnot & Josh Rudolf.

Ethereum made this an occasion to not just deploy their technology, but also their values, at a planetary scale. The foundation stated that they stuck to this new strategic move as the process of “shipping protocol” is messy, as it requires them to respond proactively to demands that are hard to articulate and even harder to fulfill.
