Your neighborhood cafe is accepting payments in crypto while amassing digital fortunes

The next time you pay for a latte, your wallet could turn into a relic. With crypto payment methods and investments like Alicante-based Vanadi Coffee’s billion-euro bet, the coffee shop beside you could simply use Crypto as an asset or a method of payment.

Alicante-based Vanadi Coffee

A cafe in San Francisco — Caffeine and Blockchain, reported that their customers can make their purchase in less than 10 seconds with crypto, while they hustle during the busy mornings. The idea has two benefits — more customer satisfaction and better turnover rates.

Big players like Starbucks began to accept crypto payments through SPEDN (a digital payment mobile app) to let users store, convert, and spend their cryptocurrency. A QR code to scan at checkout, and suddenly, your debit cards could seem more outdated than a fax machine.

On the other side, a small publicly listed café Chain – Vanadi Coffee, with 6 outlets, made headlines about a €1 billio Bitcoin investment following their official announcement on their corporate website about going public via BME Growth, in a move towards rebounding from their financial instability and rebranding Vanadi.

Compass Coffee

However, this move is not risk-free. Inspired by major international players known for their bitcoin treasury play, the firm has paved the way for fresh brews on blockchain.

Backed by the government of El Salvador, Compass Coffee, a local roastery, uses cryptocurrency to buy coffee from Jorge Cruz for B2B transactions. They began offering a ‘Bitcoin blend’, a single-origin roast with coffee from El Salvador, in 2022.

Trend has it that more and more companies are following the same, adding bitcoin to their treasury, reflecting a probable shift in consumer behavior.
