You’ve heard about Apple and Samsung mobile phones, but have you heard about a Solana mobile phone? Yes, you read that right—it is Solana Mobile. After releasing a teaser earlier this year, Solana launched the second generation of the Solana mobile, the Solana Seeker, which is set to be distributed by August 4th, along with plans for a native ecosystem token, SKR. The Solana Seeker, which runs on Android, features a SeekerID, the SeedVault Wallet, and an improved Solana Dapp Store, and most importantly, the phone is affordable.
“We focused on usability, we’ve focused on security, we’ve focused on giving developers distribution. What we’re doing with this is we’re extending what’s possible, we’re decentralizing it, and we’re growing it with additional devices from other original equipment manufacturers in the future,” stated Solana Mobile General Manager (GM) Emmett Hollyer.

The Solana Seeker mobile device, which comes from the Solana Saga device lineage, will maintain the Solana Saga’s Genesis Token. The Saga Genesis Token is a non-transferable NFT that will be minted only once per device through the dApp Store after initial device setup.
The GM stated that the decentralized mobile network will be nestled on the SKR, the native ecosystem token that will live on Solana’s layer-1 blockchain. When the GM was asked why they did not use the Solana token instead of the native SKR, Hollyer stated:
“We see an opportunity to coordinate growth and change, and we want to make sure that the decisions that are made there are aligned around something that is fundamental to the mobile ecosystem, something that’s purely aligned with that ecosystem and its outcomes.”
