How Solana processes up to 65,000 transactions per second?

Solana Transaction per second

Solana is known as the best blockchain in the cryptocurrency community. It is very known for its speed and low transaction costs or gas fees. Did you know that Solana has a theoretical capacity of about 65,000 TPS? New developments in the chain allow for even more transactions.

Why is it faster than other chains?

Solana is fast because of its new design, which fixes problems that slow down other blockchains like Ethereum and Bitcoin. Ethereum processes transactions one at a time, but Solana processes them in parallel, which means that multiple operations that don’t conflict can run at the same time.

PoH is what makes it possible to keep track of time without having to send a lot of messages to reach consensus. This lets blocks be created in less than a second, compared to Ethereum’s 12–15 seconds. This means that the TPS could be as high as 65,000.

Is its functionality similar to other blockchain networks?

It is not the same, but it is somewhat similar. Solana is a high-performance, layer-1 blockchain that is meant for mass adoption and focuses on scalability, security, and decentralization without using sharding or layer-2 solutions.

At its core, Solana operates using a unique combination of Proof of History (PoH) and Proof of Stake (PoS) mechanisms.

Record day in Solana chain

Solana’s performance peaked dramatically on August 17, 2025, during a stress test where the network processed over 107,540 TPS, hitting an all-time high

Using lightweight “noop” instructions (no-operation calls) to simulate extreme load on the mainnet, this milestone was reached. One block handled 43,016 successful transactions.

Even though this isn’t how Solana is usually used, it shows that it can handle huge workloads, which is more than its usual claim of 65,000 TPS. This makes it a leader in scalability for AI and blockchain projects.

TPS is usually between 2,000 and 4,000, but this test shows that the network is getting better all the time.

Solana is strong and fast, but it has had problems with reliability in the past, mostly because of software bugs and spam attacks that cause outages.

Over five years, the network experienced seven major incidents:

However, Solana has been operating without major outages since February 2024, a full year of uptime amid record activity.
